San Francisco Chronicle | PCOS has a new name

After pitching this topic, I reported on the patient side of an international effort to rename polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) as polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS). I interviewed women living with the condition about the challenges of diagnosis, treatment and explaining the disorder to others, highlighting why many felt the previous name failed to capture its full impact. I collaborated with a colleague who interviewed health experts, allowing us to contextualize the scientific and medical reasoning behind the change.
